As she sang about choo-choo trains, the children formed a couple of lines and paraded around the parents. It was so cute! Julie joined right in without much hesitation. Julian went around and around on that hole five times! And, he played a little game of make believe insisting that mom sit in the train seat and he called out "all aboard" then punched the pretend tickets.

Julian only teed off the actually tee the first turn. After that he would just run up to the hole, place the golf ball about three inches away, then bend over and take his shot. He was very curious when the ball disappeared down the tube at the 18th hole. He didn't want any other balls to go down there since they weren't returned to you!

At McDonald's (or, should I say "cock-a-doodle doo"), Julian made a new friend. Mother Nature must know that today is an Irish celebration -- we woke up to a thick blanket of fog outside. Hopefully the sun will appear in time for the annual St. Patty's Parade downtown. Julian made a shamrock wand with Miss Mary at the library yesterday; he's looking forward to waving it among the crowd.
So, here's Julian helping Mom cut up a big head of cabbage for a yummy salad. Of course he was the official taste tester; at one point he lifted up the entire head of cabbage and took a big bite out of it!

In other news, Julian likes to tell you his name -- "Ju, Ju" he says. "Doctor" Julian soon had everyone up and playing again in no time.

The weather has been very Spring-like lately, so you can imagine where Julian would spend every waking moment if he could. He's been raking up old leaves, digging in the dirt (mud really!), exploring behind the garage, testing out all his riding toys, and even rolling down the hill in front of the house. What do you think of his white A-frame shirt and black rimmed glasses? Isn't he just the budding engineer??!!

Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss......"left foot, left foot, left foot, right; play, play, play all day and night"!!

Last night we worked on a family project - fixing a slightly used wooden train table. Julian was totally focused on repairing the broken draw. He really kept his mommy and daddy going despite the distraction of Monday night TV shows like "How I Met Your Mother" and "Two and a Half Men". After the table was mended, Julian tested out how the trains rolled around on it. He kept pulling Daddy by the hand over to the train table to play "Toot, Toot"!

Sturm familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15379015073603614480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8332680341855523193.post-25895747287484301652010-02-24T05:52:00.000-08:002010-02-24T06:52:45.198-08:00Toddler tricks
I was finally able to catch Julian in the act of doing his handstand. He picked up this trick after participating in a toddler's gymnastics course at Family Fun day at the Peoria Civic Center. As you can see by his quick get-away in his box car, he'd rather not have his gymnastics tricks filmed until he's perfected them! :-)

Right now the little man is scanning the bar codes on some library books with his toy register. Do you think we visit the library too often?? Hope we don't have a late fee to pay - Julian's piggy bank is already swelling!

Another "trick" Julian has picked up from his parental units is hanging coats up over the back of a kitchen chair. Of course, Julian insists on taking off his zippered sweaters, jackets and PJs (which he is supposed to be currently wearing indoors) and hanging those up over his little chairs too!

Daddy has been helping Julian develop a skill - writing his name. The animals were quite active. The llamas, goats, ponies and zebu all followed us around begging for treats. Julian looks a little worried in this picture. Hey, whose kid project is that anyway? As it turned out, Mommy had to go ask for another hammer so that each of the boys could have their own tools to work with. The Tic-Tac-Toe game box turned out great - on the first try! Julian was busy this evening stacking the game pieces into a tower and knocking them over; it's a very versatile game, you know!

As a family we ventured out to the Family Fun Fest at the Peoria Civic Center. Thank goodness they had a Toddler Town set-up this year with its own bouncy castle, because the lines at all the other "big kid" inflatable games were really long. We didn't even bother trying to take a pony ride or have our faces painted. The local gymnastics studio created an obstacle course for the lil' tikes; Julian loved their jungle theme so much that he nearly walked off with their stuffed cheetah. (He did help the cheetah to ride on the rocking horse, go down the slide and crawl through the tunnel before trying to make a get away with him!)

In other news, we can finally see the grass (and lots and lots of mud) in our yard again! It's been under a naturally white cover for nearly a month.

Sturm familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15379015073603614480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8332680341855523193.post-62292264912858109542010-01-21T14:45:00.000-08:002010-01-21T14:49:23.207-08:00Hey buckaroo

Julian rediscovered a few of his pre-Christmas toys. Julian had carried these five oversized books into the kitchen by himself. He sat down on the bottom rung of the metal plant stand to "read" them when a couple fell to the floor.
